FAQ's

ODF is a supplemental settlement option that lets you settle and fund payment transactions in your open batch directly to an eligible bank account or debit card. You can immediately access the funds to make purchases or pay bills. Make unlimited open batch transfers transfers per day, even on weekends and holidays.

If you have an eligible DDA on file with us, your account will be set up as RTP (Real Time Payment) and will fund directly to the DDA we have on file. If you do NOT have an eligible bank account, you will be asked for a debit card number during the registration process, and will be funded as OCT (Original Credit Transaction).

No. This choice is determined when the account is set up. If you have an eligible bank account, you will be set up for RTP and your bank account on file will receive the ODF. If your bank account is ineligible, you will be prompted to enter a debit card.

If eligible, the ODF button will appear in your payment portal. Eligibility is assessed on risk and batch requirements.

We currently offer two ways to use ODF:

  • Converge, via the ‘Payments’ tab in the User Interface portal
  • Payments Insider, via the ‘ODF’ button in the merchant portal

As of August 2023, we no longer require require an additional agreement as ODF was added to the standard Terms of Service.

You can enroll a debit card from Visa or Mastercard that is enabled for instant transfer services (via Visa Fast Funds) by the bank or issuer. Most cards are set up for this service, and enrollment will be approved. If the card is denied enrollment, the Bank Identification Number (BIN) will be checked with Elavon’s systems to verify eligibility for ODF. After that, it is sent to Visa for account verification. If approved, the card information is tokenized, securely stored on file, and immediately enabled for ODF. This process takes seconds.

There are a few different reasons this could happen, including:

  • You tried to enroll an ineligible card (for example, a credit card or a card other than a Visa or Mastercard debit card).
  • You tried to enroll a debit card that is not enabled to receive fast funds.

If you do not receive the one-time passcode, you can submit a request to resend the passcode from within Payments Insider to the email on file.

This is completed as one of the final steps in the registration process for ODF and is only available if you aren’t eligible for the RTP version of this service.

If your DDA on file qualifies for RTP, you will not have to enter a debit card and will instead be funded to the bank account on file.

If the debit card stored on file has changed, you can update the card information within the Terminal Information settings. If the card number is changed, a 5-day waiting period is enforced before you can continue using ODF. If the expiration date is the only change being made to the card on file, it is immediately enabled for ODF.

No. Only one card can be stored on file for ODF. Also, please note: if you need to update a new card – or the card on file’s account number has changed – there is a 5-day waiting period. If only the expiration date has changed, the card is immediately available for ODF funding.

ODF doesn’t work with the following services:

  • Lodging applications
  • Devices and software that don’t store their transactions in Host (“terminal-based” programs)
  • Cash Advances
  • Discover Direct
  • AmEx Direct
  • Fuel/Fleet
  • CFNA
  • Surcharge
  • Convenience Fee
  • Tax Service Fee

The enrollment system will verify that these services are NOT enabled when the account is set up.

In order to use ODF for a batch, you settle it in the ODF Dashboard – instead of settling it using the payment device or software.

There is a fee for using ODF equal to 1.5% of the gross batch total per batch you settle, and this fee is separate from the card processing fees. Batches settled using standard settlement are not charged this ODF fee.

If the funds have not been received within 30 minutes, you should contact your bank or card issuer.

For security purposes, only the account owner or authorized signer can set up the ODF service, and the step to add a debit card shouldn’t be delegated to someone else. Once the account has been set up and a debit card has been added, the account owner can set up other users to be able to settle batches using the ODF Dashboard.

Settlement is done at the TID level. Multi-location is not supported.

  • Payments Insider does a look up to see what unsettled transactions are in the batch and sends them all to the bank account or debit card on file. At the end of the day, the remaining unsettled transactions are processed as usual.
  • If you process a high volume of transactions, it is recommended that you monitor your daily activity to determine when to request ODF since a current batch could exceed an issuer’s limits for fast funding.

The maximum amount per transaction set by Visa is $50,000. However, card limits vary by issuer and by cardholder based on several factors. In some cases there may be limits placed by the issuer or card brand that will prevent a batch from being funded via ODF, even if ODF allows the settlement from the Dashboard. In those situations, the batch will be funded like a normal (non-ODF) batch to the bank account we have on file.

Other transactions settle as usual (typically auto-settled at the end of the day) to the bank account of record via your primary settlement program: Fast Track Funding, True Daily Funding, Standard ACH, Same Day Funding or Next Day, depending on the account set up.

We do not have a maximum limit for the number of times ODF can be used for settlement. However, the issuing bank may have limits on the number and/or dollar amount of deposits you can receive in a specific time period. Contact your bank or issuer for additional details.
